As always you are welcome to come worship with us
JOHN 4:23-24 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

Dear Friends, Have you wondered what life in our great nation, America, would be like without all the chaos of war in Iraq, in our homes, in our hearts? Have you longed, hoped, and prayed for peace? Just recently, a senior gentleman, a few blocks away, had his home broken into. He was found dead from a fire that had been deliberately started. The person responsible for his death died in gun-fire. Yes we do live in a time and have always lived in times of terrible chaos. On Memorial Day weekend we will remember our veterans who were slain for the cause of freedom. Flowers will be placed on the tomb of the unknown soldier. Families will bring flowers to cemeteries in remembrance of losing their loved ones in all the wars. A few months ago our music director, Jim Jordan, received a copy of a new choral collection put together by Joseph Martin, "of Faith and Freedom, Celebrating Our Legacy of Liberty." It’s about peace in the midst of adversity and war, and is one of the most inspiring and thought provoking concert’s concerning peace that we had ever heard. We decided that it needed to be sung to everyone who would come to hear it. On the evening of May 25, at 7:00 p.m. Gethsemane’s choir, joined by guests and friends of the choir, led by Mr. Jim Jordan, Music Director, will sing Joseph Martin’s masterpiece of music. "Our Heritage of Faith," "Community of Faith," "Song for the Unsung Hero," are some of the inspiring works that will be sung. Please plan to join us on May 25 at 7:00 p.m. Come early and get a seat, for we have invited many churches, neighbors, friends, and family, to join us in "Celebrating Our Legacy of Liberty." In Christ’s Love and Peace Pastor Kay

OUR NEW LIGHTS
They did not magically appear overnight. It has taken a lot of research and hard work and of course your donations to the lighting fund. So many thanks are needed. First we will start with Jim Jordan. Thank you Jim because without your vision this would not have happened. Next, to all those who generously donated money. And all those who spent many hours preparing the brackets, electrical and installing them. Many, many hours of hard work from, Steve Popoff, Dick Meckfessel, Glenn Courtney, Dick Park Jack Hensley, John Wentzel, Mark Stephan and of course Jim Jordan.

MEN'S FELLOWSHIP CLUB
Thanks to Dick Meckfessel for his devotional and refreshments enjoyed by the ten men in attendance. The group welcomed back Dean Ellestad, as he and Margaret had just returned from Minnesota, and expressed condolences for the loss of his brother. The group, after a review of the treasurer’s report by Glenn, discussed Gerald Troy's proposal to purchase and erect a steeple on the arch that faces Arden Way. The group thought the idea had merit but that a cost proposal needed to be developed and Gerald pledged to follow through. The group decided upon June 22, 2008 after, church for the summer Barbeque that will not be held on Fathers Day weekend. The group was excited about the Barbeque that Jim Fuchs has donated that will increase our cooking capacity and allow chicken, hamburgers, and hotdogs to be cooked simultaneously. The Rivercats ball game is July 20 at 6:00 p.m.--Dick Meckfessel is arranging for twenty tickets. There was further discussion of Vacation Bible School where several men led by Steve Popoff will help build the scenery. A reminder was made to support the youth by purchasing tickets for May 3 Cinco de Mayo Taco bar-bingo activity. There was also discussion of the work projects to be conducted after the meeting, including the beautification of the plot along the parking lot on Mission Avenue that Mike King has begun work on. The main task was pruning the oleanders. The meeting ended with prayer and a reminder that the next meeting is May 10, Lee Sutter is in-charge.

WOMAN OF GETHSEMANE

Women of Gethsemane: Our potluck on April 12 was well attended with 16 ladies present. The Men' s Group was having a work day so they joined us for a wonderful lunch and fellowship. The treasurer’s report was given by Marilynn DeGrood and a devotion by Emma Sword on Luke 8:44-45. Eleanor Franklin reported on her attendance at the Church Women United meeting, which was about the WIND center for homeless teens. If you have useable household items or clothes and would like to donate them to the WIND center thrift store call 480-0688 for pick up. Pastor Kay brought up the topic of the family we are sponsoring. Shannon and her six children have to find a new place to live by the end of April. We decided to help by providing household supplies, or any needs that are not supplied by her resources. Household items like toilet paper, paper towels and laundry soap. And personal items like shampoo, toothpaste, bath soap, baby items like diapers and wipes. Please bring the items you signed up for to our next meeting. Members of the congregation who would like to help please see or call Chris King for the list of items the family needs. Pastor Kay talked about the need for servers after church on Sundays. Call Donna Wentzel if you can help. The meeting closed with birthday cake and celebration for Elsie Lambert's 90th. Our next meeting is May 10 at 11:30 A soup and cornbread lunch will be provided.

FAITH AND FREEDOM MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT
Memorial Day Concert Sunday May 25 - 7:00 pm (at Gethsemane Lutheran) of FAITH and FREEDOM Celebrating Our Legacy of Liberty by Joseph M. Martin presented by Gethsemane’s Choir, and friends Directed by Mr. Jim Jordan Living in the United States of America is an honor. But we live in uncertain times with the war in Iraq and our economy in a slump. Mr. Joseph Martin felt that through writing this moving musical, of Faith and Freedom, it would bring the community together to remember God’s Blessings upon our nation. He states that “this is a moment for us to celebrate our shared legacy of faith and to lift our voices in support of the enduring hope that is found within all communities founded on grace.” “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 We will be inviting our Greater Sacramento Lutheran Conference Churches, as well as our community. Please plan to invite your family, Friends, and Neighbors
